Holy God, your Only-Begotten in obedience to the Spirit fasted forty days in the desert and was tempted as we are, yet without sin: give us grace to discipline ourselves through fasting, prayer and service to others, that we may press on towards Easter with eager faith and love and we pray that many will be called now to a Christian ministry and serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Offertory Hymn               359

Preface            And now we give you thanks because you give us the spirit of discipline that we may triumph over evil and grow in grace, as we prepare to celebrate the paschal mystery with mind and heart renewed.

Short passage of scripture
Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man. Lk 21:36

Post Communion Prayer
God of power and loving kindness, you despise nothing that you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent. Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, so that when we turn to you and confess our sins we may receive from you the God of all mercy perfect forgiveness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.   Amen.

Blessing           Christ give you grace to grow in holiness, to deny yourselves, take up your cross, and follow him; and the blessing of God almighty the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always. Amen

                         Go in peace to love and serve the Lord
All                    In the name of Christ. Amen.

Hymn               Hark, my soul! it is the Lord;
'Tis thy Saviour, hear his word;
Jesus speaks, and speaks to thee;
Say, poor sinner, lov'st thou me?

I delivered thee when bound,
And, when wounded, healed thy wound;
Sought thee wand'ring, set thee right,
Turned thy darkness into light.

Can a woman's tender care
Cease, towards the child she bare?
Yes, she may forgetful be,
Yet will I remember thee.

Mine is an unchanging love;
Higher than the heights above;
Deeper than the depths beneath,
Free and faithful, strong as death.

Thou shalt see my glory soon,
When the work of grace is done;
Partner of my throne shalt be,
Say, poor sinner, lov'st thou me?

Lord it is my chief complaint,
That my love is weak and faint;
Yet I love thee and adore,
O for grace to love thee more!
