Confession
Leader                   We are a temple of God’s indwelling Holy Spirit, yet we have grieved him. The temple of our bodies does not belong to us, but was bought at the price of Christ’s precious blood. In the silence that engulfs us, let us reflect in sorrow yet with confidence, to ask forgiveness of our Father in heaven for our past and where we may fail by obstructing the work of the Holy Spirit in our midst. 1 Corinthians 3:16

                             Silence for reflection and realisation

                             Zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
----Silence----
                             Repent and live
All                        Andaware irangum irangum
                             Andaware Irangum//

 I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
----Silence----
Repent and live
All                      Kristhuve irangumaiya
                           Kristhuve irangumaiya //

                             The Lord will defend your coming out and your coming in from this time forward for evermore.
----Silence----
All                        Andaware irangum irangum
                             Andaware irangum irangum //

Absolution (T) May God who is faithful and just forgive you your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:8). And give you a white stoneLike living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house (1 Pet 2:5a). Amen.

In place of the gloria
Majesty! Worship His majesty
Unto Jesus, be all glory power and praise
Majesty! Kingdom authority
Flows from His throne
Unto His own, His anthem raise

So exalt, Lift up on high
The name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify
Christ Jesus the king

 Majesty! Worship His majesty
Jesus who died now glorified
King of all kings
Jesus who died now glorified
King of all kings

HYMN

We love the place, O God,
wherein thine honour dwells;
the joy of thine abode
all earthly joy excels.

We love the house of prayer,
wherein thy servants meet;
and thou, O Lord, art there
thy chosen flock to greet.

We love the sacred font;
for there the holy Dove
to pour is ever wont
his blessing from above.

We love thine altar, Lord;
O what on earth so dear?
for there, in faith adored,
we find thy presence near.

We love the word of life,
the word that tells of peace,
of comfort in the strife,
and joys that never cease.

We love to sing below
for mercies freely given;
but O we long to know
the triumph-song of heaven.

Lord Jesus, give us grace
on earth to love thee more,
in heaven to see thy face,
and with thy saints adore.

Sermon

Affirmation of
Faith                      Let us affirm our faith in Jesus Christ the King of Kings

We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father, through him all things were made, For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People

For the Church universal, of which these buildings are a visible symbol,
Thanthai iravarey, thanthai iravarey, em mandratai ketka vaarum, thanthai iraivarey.

For this congregation and all who enter her, that we may remember your promise that where two or three are gathered in your name you are there in the midst of them, and continue to know that you are God.
Thanthai iravarey, thanthai iravarey, em mandratai ketka vaarum, thanthai iraivarey.

For the fulfilling of our desires and petitions as you see best for us, and for your blessings of the past and for a vision for the future,
Thanthai iravarey, thanthai iravarey, em mandratai ketka vaarum, thanthai iraivarey.

For our nation and all who rule, for justice and democracy to be upheld, that the reign of Christ will supercede human rule, ushering a new era of respect and dignity in our land.
Thanthai iravarey, thanthai iravarey, em mandratai ketka vaarum, thanthai iraivarey.

For all who have served you faithfully – clergy and congregation, and for grace to persevere like them; and for those who have died in the peace of Christ and are now at rest,
Thanthai iravarey, thanthai iravarey, em mandratai ketka vaarum, thanthai iraivarey.

Silence for personal prayer and thanksgiving

Christ our King and foundation, you have journeyed with us the years gone by and now have renewed our journey once again into the future. THE MINISTRY OF THE SACRAMENT

OFFERTORY  HYMN
The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

Elect from every nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

’Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
                          In love may dwell with Thee.

The Great Thanksgiving (T)

The Lord be with you
And also with you

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is right and a good and joyful thing, always and every where to give thanks to you, Gracious Father, creator of heaven and earth.

And now we give you thanks that, though the heaven of heavens cannot contain you, and your glory is in the entire world, yet you chose to hallow places for your worship, and in them you pour forth gifts of grace upon your faithful people.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your name.

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy indeed are you almighty Father eternal Sovereign who in all your gifts and works, manifests your holiness to all humanity. Holy is your Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ through whom you did order the universe. And Holy is your ever blessed Spirit who reveals all things even the deep things of you O God.

Just as you yourself are holy, so also you created us in your own image that we might live in holy fellowship. And when we disobeyed your commandments, you did not abandon us but you guided us as a merciful Father, you revealed yourself to us through the sages, the Law and the Prophets, and through your redeeming acts in history, and when the time was ripe, you came among us through your
Son Jesus, whom you sent into the world to share our human nature in order that the Lord Jesus might revive your own image in us.

Generous God, Jesus loves us and sacrificed self for us and heralded the new life in breaking bread with companions.

(E) On the very night that he was betrayed to suffer death upon the cross for us, the Lord Jesus took bread and when he had given thanks to you almighty Father, he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying: Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. (T) In the same manner after supper, he took the cup also, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them saying: Drink, all of you from this, for this is my blood of the new covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink, it in remembrance of me.

Jesus Christ is Lord
Lord, by your cross and resurrection you have set us free. You are the Saviour of the world

(T) And so Father, we present this bread and cup in communion with your whole church, in fellowship with (Blessed Mary, and …… and) all the saints, and in union with all creation we celebrate your Son’s death and victory; giving thanks for all that Christ has done for us; for preparing us for all that lies ahead, as we receive the benefits of Christ’s life, death, resurrection and session in glory, and we eagerly await the heavenly banquet after Christ’s coming again.

And we entreat you most merciful God to hear us and send your All Holy Spirit on us and on these your gifts, that they being blessed and hallowed by that life
giving power, may be for us the Body and Blood of your most dearly loved Son, to the end that we receiving the same may be sanctified and filled with your grace and heavenly blessing.

Accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; make us one body in Jesus Christ our Lord, † by whom and with whom and in whom in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory be to you almighty Father, world without end. Amen.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD
Deacon: (T)          The bread which we break is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
All:                         We being many are one bread, one body for we all partake of  the one bread. (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)

All                        God’s mercy endures forever.

All                        We pray you, Lord our God, let your dedicated people take with them the fruits of your blessings and joy, that the church which we have celebrated today may be truly revealed in our lives and
actions. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord and king. Amen.

Prayer of dedication to be said by all,

All                        God of salvation, who revealed to our ancestor Jacob the house of God and the gate of heaven, be present also in this place whose dedication we celebrate today. Build us, who gather here, into a spiritual house, a people set apart for your praise and glory, so that we, and all who have tasted your goodness, may grow towards eternal salvation in Christ Jesus, the cornerstone, who is one with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for the reign of Christ in our midst
All                     Sovereign Lord, you restore all things in your Only Begotten, the  Ruler of the universe: give us                                  faith to be steadfast amid the tumults of this secular world, knowing that your Kingdom shall                                    come, and bring all people together under the gracious reign of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive                           and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God now and forever. Amen.

Blessing                Go forth into the world in peace; be of good courage; hold fast that which is good; render to no one evil for evil; strengthen the fainthearted; support the weak; help the afflicted; honour everyone; love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit and the blessing of God almighty Father, Son and Holy                    Spirit Amen.

DISMISSAL

All                                           In the name of Christ Amen.

Recession
All hail the power of Jesus' name
Let angels prostrate fall
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him crown Lord of all

Crown Him ye martyrs of your God
Who from His altar call
Praise Him whose way of pain ye trod
And crown Him crown Lord of all

Ye prophets who our freedom won
Ye searchers great and small
By whom the work of truth is done
And crown Him crown Lord of all

Ye seed of Israel's chosen race
Ye ransomed of the fall
Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him crown Lord of all

Let every tribe and every tongue
To Him their hearts enthral
Lift high the universal song
And crown Him crown Lord of all

Christ church Warleigh

Church of Ceylona Diocese of Colombo.

1878 – 2018

Their exists in the world ancient church building. It is the same in Sri Lanka too. In the same manner, Christ Church Wareligh which is situated in a place called Kenthagola in the hill country is a church which is 140 years old. It is a known fact to a few.

This church was built in 1878 by William Scott. He was an British estate manager. He lived at the Governors Mansion in an estate called, Ottery. Hence he was in a position to coordinate the affairs of the church.

This church is built according to gothic architecture of the British. From information that is received it is completely built with stone and the word used is Burma Teak, and the roof made of cement sheets. This church is situated amidst nature on the Dickoy-Maskeliya road. It is resting place for many of the English planters. Upto 1948 this church was under the administration of the British. Hence the people of the surrounding would call this church as “the englsihman’s church”.

After independence this church came under the Estate Managers. However this has changed and at present even an ordinary persosn could enter this church for worship. Worship happens in the local languages too.  This  a done taking into consideration the future of the church.

Given below are some of the Sri Lankan clergy who have served in this church.
