#SUNDAY WORSHIP - Temple de Celigny

Temple de Celigny

13th October 2019

10.00am

Welcome Service for the students of the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey.

Temple de Celigny is build on a a 5th century church. It was burned forty years ago but built up again. It's called Temple instead of church in French to differentiate between the people and the building. The people are the church and the building which is commonly called church is known as Temple.

What captures the attention as you enter the church is a beautiful stained glass window. An organ to the right of the church, very hard to say which is front or the rear of the church. The altar area is on the left side and the congregation sit around.

The service was in French with some hymns, readings and a summary of the sermon in English. Some colleagues shared some reflections of  Ecumenism from their parts of the world while some participated in the intercessions.

The readings were from Romans 4:23 & 5:5 and John 17:6 - 11 with Psalm 96. Pastor Marc Gallopin in his sermon spoke about justification and faith. We are justified in Christ. While we have our differences, we have to realise that we are all one in Christ.

The church which is ordered quite different
One of the songs that were sung given below was what touched me. In the midst of staying in a foreign land amidst those from different nations, understanding and adjusting and adapting you keep realising that the kindness and love of God is vast as the skies. His faithfulness never dies. How better can I respond other than giving Him my offering of praise and offering my life to continue living for Him. How important Sundays and worship will become if we were to reflect each day, how God works in different ways in our midst and in our lives.

My heart longs for you, my Saviour; I would follow You, my Lord.
Your kindness and love are vast as the skies; Your faithfulness never dies.
My God and my King, Your great Name I sing; My offering of praise I bring.
Jesus, O Jesus, I give You my life; Jesus, O Jesus, I give You my life.

My soul contemplates Your glory I worship in holy awe
In quietness and in confident trust I rest in all that You are
I'll sing to the world Your glory and grace Until I behold Your face
Jesus, O Jesus, I give You my life; Jesus, O Jesus, I give You my life.
