PRAYER AROUND THE ACROSS

Preparing a space for prayer

·         Select the room or space that is suitable

·         All you would need is a cross. If you do not have one you can be creative and make a cross which you can use for this time of prayer.

·         The family gathers around the cross.

To be read by all participants in silence

The cross is a symbol of suffering at and it helps us to have an invisible communion with Christ who suffered on the cross and with a suffering world – the world that suffers due to the corvid-19 pandemic (the vertical and the horizontal +). The meeting point is God’s love.

Reflection

Our Lenten journey this year has been different. We have been really pushed into the wilderness, into isolation. Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday too have been commemorated in isolation. Yet I believe at the center of our Lenten journey till this very moment has been the cross, with our eyes focused beyond to the empty tomb and the risen Lord and the victorious life that we called to live.

                For the first time I believe we are able to identify with Jesus’ loneliness on Good Friday. His disciples had deserted him, the crowd that came with him singing hosanna had turned against him. And on the cross he felt that his father too had isolated him.

                It is in such a backdrop that we who are seated in our homes away from our brothers and sisters in Christ look to Jesus and Calvary and try to understand the events of that Friday by opening our hearts and allowing God to speak to us.

Good Friday is not about how we feel or how emotional we can get. Good Friday to me is a day we measure ourselves. How much do we love Jesus? Where do we stand in our journey with Jesus? Are we bold enough to stand at the foot of the cross like Mary and the other women and the disciple whom Jesus loved? Or are we like the disciples who deserted Jesus? Or are we like the crowd which followed Jesus when everything was going right and then cried out crucify him? And this year locked up inside our homes we have the opportunity to measure ourselves.

                Today we sit around the cross and we take our minds back to that scene on Calvary.  The foot of the cross is a place of chaos. People are shocked. The disciples have run away. Women beating their breasts and weeping. Women holding on to the cross. Confused people looking at the scene. Soldiers pushing away the people. Cruelty is all around the cross. There is blood everywhere.

                Whipped, spat upon, slapped, struck by fists, with a crown on his head and blood dripping, Jesus hangs on the cross. Sounds of groaning as the pain of the nails, the lashing and the crown seep through the body of those hanging on the cross. The scene is gruesome.

The death of Jesus should cause us to tremble. Because no one ever has undergone such cruelty for the sake of millions. And it is through all this suffering that Jesus prays, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”. Today we look up to Jesus. As we look up to him we see the face which was betrayed by friendship. We recollect the pain of being betrayed by a loved one. We see the cruel punishment of the Roman rule.

And we realize that it is for us that Jesus went through this death. And so we are called to fix our eyes on Jesus. Uncertainty, betrayal, persecution, denial is all part of the world we live in. Amidst the pain of betrayal, desertation and denial we see in the face of Jesus the love of God.

                Jesus gave up his life for us. But he did not give up on his love for this world.  And so on this Good Friday once again we look to Jesus on the cross, not only as people who are guilty of betraying, deserting, exchanging and denying him from time to time or living our own ways, but also as people who have experienced and will continue to experience the love of God in our lives. God’s love is amazing. And it sets us free.

                May the season of Lent, holy week and Easter transform us to come out and live as God’s new creation.

Almighty God, look with mercy on this your family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was content to be betrayed and given up into the hands of sinners and to suffer death upon a cruel cross; grant us the grace to benefit from Christ’s passion; who is alive and glorified with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

කුරුසිය වටා යාච්ඤාව

යාචිඥාවට සුදුසු ස්ථානයක් පිලියෙල කරන්න.

·         සුදුසු කාමරයක් හෝ ඉඩක් තෝරන්න.

·         ඔබට අවශ්‍ය වන්නේ කුරුසියක් පමණි. ඔබට කුරුසියක් නොමැති නම්, ඔබ නිර්මාණශීලීව මෙම යාච්ඤා කාලය සඳහා ඔබට භාවිතා කළ හැකි කුරුසියක් සාදන්න.

·         පවුලේ අය  කුරුසිය වටා රැස්වන්න.

සහභාගිවන සියළුදෙනාම නිහඬව කියවන්න.

කුරුසය දුක් විඳීමේ සංකේතයක් වන අතර එය කුරුසියේ දුක් විඳින ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේ හා දුක් විඳින ලෝකයක් සමඟ අදෘශ්‍යමාන සම්බන්ධතාවයක් ඇති කර ගැනීමට අපට උපකාරී වේ - කොවිඩ් -19 වසංගතය (සිරස් සහ තිරස්) හේතුවෙන් පීඩා විඳින ලෝකය. රැස්වීමේ ස්ථානය දෙවියන්ගේ ප්‍රේමයයි.

මෙනෙහිකිරීම

     මේ වසරේ අපගේ චතාරික ගමන වෙනස්වේ. අපව සැබවින්ම පාළුකරයට, හුදෙකලාවකට තල්ලු කර ඇත. ගොක් ඉරිදා සහ මහා බ්‍රහස්පතින්දා ද හුදකලා ලෙස අනුස්මරණය කරන්නට විය. එහෙත්, මේ මොහොත වන තුරුම අපගේ චතාරික ගමනේ කේන්ද්‍රයේ කුරුසය ඇති බව මම විශ්වාස කරමි, අපගේ දෑස් හිස් සොහොන් ගෙය සහ උත්ථානවූ ස්වාමීන් වහන්සේ සහ අප ජීවත්වීමට කැඳවූ ජයග්‍රාහී ජීවිතය දෙසත් ඉන් ඔබ්බටත් යොමු වී ඇත.

පළමු වතාවට මහා සිකුරාදා දිනයේ යේසුස් වහන්සේගේ තනිකම අපට හඳුනාගත හැකි යැයි මම විශ්වාස කරමි. උන්වහන්සේගේ ගෝලයන් ඔහු අතහැර ගොස් ඇති අතර, ඔහු සමඟ හෝසන්නා ගායනා කරමින් සිටි පිරිස ඔහුට විරුද්ධව හැරී ගියහ. කුරුසියේදී උන්වහන්සේගේ පියාෙණන්ද තමා හුදෙකලා කර ඇති බව ඔහුට දැනුනි.

ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේ තුළ සිටින අපගේ සහෝදර සහෝදරියන්ගෙන් වෙන්ව අපගේ නිවෙස්වල හිඳගෙන සිටින අපි යේසුස් සහ කල්වරිය දෙස බලා එම සිකුරාදා සිදුවීම් තේරුම් ගැනීමට උත්සාහ කරන්නේ අපගේ හදවත් විවෘත කර දෙවියන් වහන්සේ අපට කථා කිරීමට ඉඩ දීමෙනි.

මහා සිකුරාදා යනු අපට හැඟෙන ආකාරය හෝ අපට කෙතරම් හැඟීම්බර විය හැකිද යන්න නොවේ. මට මහා  සිකුරාදා යනු අප අපවම මනින දිනයකි. අපි යේසුස් වහන්සේට කොතරම් ප්‍රේම කරනවාද? යේසුස් සමඟ අපගේ ගමනේදී අප සිටින්නේ කොතැනද? මරියා සහ අනෙක් ස්ත්‍රීන් හා යේසුස් ප්‍රේම කළ ශ්‍රාවකයා මෙන් කුරුසියේ පාමුල සිටගෙන සිටීමට අපත් නිර්භීතද? නැත්නම් අපි යේසුස්ව අතහැර ගිය ගෝලයන් හා සමානද? නැතහොත්, සියල්ල නිවැරදිව සිදුවන විට යේසුස් පසුපස ගිය සමූහයා හා සමානද? මේ අවුරුද්ද අපි අපතුලම හිර වී ඇත.

අද අපි කුරුසය වටා වාඩි වී කැල්වාරියේ එම දර්ශනය වෙත අපගේ මනස නැවත ගෙන යන්නෙමු. කුරුසියේ පාමුල අවුල් සහගත ස්ථානයකි. මිනිස්සු කම්පනයට පත් වෙති. ගෝලයන් පලා ගොස් ඇත. කාන්තාවන් පපුවට ගසාගෙන අඬනු ඇත. කුරුසිය  අල්ලාගෙන සිටින කාන්තාවන්. ව්‍යාකූල පුද්ගලයින් දර්ශනය දෙස බලා සිටිති.. සොල්දාදුවන් ජනතාව ඉවතට තල්ලු කරයි. කුරිරුකම කුරුසය වටා ඇත. සෑම තැනකම රුධිරය වැගිරෙමින් ඇත.

කසයෙන් තළා, කම්මුල් පහරවල්, කෙල පහරවල්, හිසට කටු ඔටුන්නක් නිසා ලේ වැගිරීමකින් ජේසුස් වහන්සේ කුරුසියේ එල්ලී සිටියි. නියපොතු වල වේදනාව, කස පහර සහ කටු ඔටුන්න හේතුවෙ න්  එල්ලී සිටින උන්වහන්සේගේ සිරුර හරහා රුධිරය ගලා යන දර්ශනය දකින්නට බිහිසුණුය.

යේසුස්ගේ මරණය අපව වෙව්ලවන්නක් විය යුතුයි. මන්ද, කිසිවෙකු මෙතරම් මිලියන ගණනක් වෙනුවෙන් මෙවැනි කුරිරුකම් වලට ලක් වී නැත. “ඔවුන් කරන දේ ඔවුන් නොදන්නා බැවින්, පියාණනි ඔවුන්ට සමාව දුනමැනව” කියා යේසුස් වහන්සේ යාච්ඤා කරන්නේ මේ සියලු දුක් වේදනා සමඟින්ය.

අද අපි යේසුස් දෙස බලා සිටිමු. අපි ඔහු දෙස බලන විට මිත්‍රත්වය පාවා දුන් මුහුණ අපට පෙනේ. ආදරණීය කෙනෙකු විසින් පාවාදීමේ වේදනාව අපට සිහිපත් වේ. රෝම පාලනයේ කුරිරු දණ්ඩනය අපට පෙනේ. යේසුස් වහන්සේ මේ මරණයට මුහුණ දුන්නේ අප උදෙසා බව අපට වැටහේ. ඒ නිසා අපව කැඳවනු ලබන්නේ යේසුස් වහන්සේ දෙස අපගේ ඇස් යොමු කරමිනි. අවිනිශ්චිතතාවය, පාවාදීම, හිංසා කිරීම, ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කිරීම යන සියල්ල අප ජීවත් වන ලෝකයේ  කොටස්ය. පාවාදීම, අතහැර

යාම සහ ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කිරීමේ වේදනාව මධ්‍යයේ දෙවියන් වහන්සේගේ ප්‍රේමය යේසුස් වහන්සේගේ අභියස අපට පෙනේ.   

යේසුස් වහන්සේ අප වෙනුවෙන් තම ජීවිතය අත්හලසේක. නමුත් ඔහු මේ ලෝකයට දැක්වූ ආදරය අත්හැරියේ නැත. ඉතින් මේ මහා සිකුරාදා අපි යළිත් වරක් කුරුසිය මත සිටින යේසුස් දෙස බලමු. වරින් වර ඔහුව පාවාදීම, අතහැර දැමීම, හුවමාරු කර ගැනීම සහ ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කිරීම හෝ අපේම මාර්ගවල ජීවත් වීම යන වැරදිකරුවන් ලෙස පමණක් නොව, අත්දැකීම් ඇති සහ අපගේ ජීවිත තුළ දෙවියන් වහන්සේගේ ප්‍රේමය අඛණ්ඩව අප අත්විඳිනු ඇත. දෙවියන්ගේ ප්‍රේමය පුදුම සහගතය. එය අපව නිදහස් කරයි.

චතාරිකය, ශුද්ධ සතිය සහ පාස්කු උත්සව සමය දෙවියන් වහන්සේගේ නව මැවිල්ලක් ලෙස පිටතට පැමිණ ජීවත් වීමට අපව පොළඹවන සේක්වා.

කාලයක් තිස්සේ අපි බලාපොරොත්තුව වෙනුවට සැකය වර්ධනය කර ඇත්තෙමු. . . පියාණෙනි, කමා කළමැනව.

දෙවියන් වහන්සේගේ මහිමය සඳහා තෑගි සහ කුසලතා භාවිතා කිරීම අප ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරන අවස්ථාවලදී …… පියාණෙනි, කමා කළමැනව.

ආත්මාර්ථකාමිත්වය, කෑදරකම සහ රාගය අපගේ තීරණ වලට බලපෑම් කරන විට. . . පියාණෙනි, කමා කළමැනව.

අවස්ථාවන් සඳහා අපි ප්‍රජාව වෙනුවට හුදකලාව පෝෂණය කරමු. . . පියාණෙනි, කමා කළමැනව.

සියළුම වෛද්‍ය හා හෙද කාර්‍යමණ්ඩලය සහ එම පවුල් උදෙසා ...... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

නිරෝධායන, හුදකලා සහ අගුලු දමා ඇති සියලු දෙනා සඳහා ...... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

සුළු ව්‍යාපාරිකයින් හා කුලීකරුවන් උදෙසා .... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

දේශයේ නායකයින් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ වගකීම් උදෙසා ... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

සමාව ගත නොහැකි සහ සමාව නුදුන් අය උදෙසා ... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

මහළු නිවාසවල වෙසෙන වැඩිහිටියන් උදෙසා ... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

දුප්පතුන් සහ නිවාස නොමැති අය උදෙසා ... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

විවිධ ආගම් සහ වර්ග අතර ඉවසීම සහ අවබෝධය සඳහා ... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

සභාව සහ සේවය යෙදෙන්නන් ඇතුළු සැමලේ සාක්ෂිය උදෙසා ... ස්වාමීනි අපගේ යාච්ඤාව ඇසුව මැනව.

මහා සිකුරාදාට නියමිත කැටි යැදුම

සව්බලැති දෙවිදුනි, අප ස්වාමින්වූ යේසුස් ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේ පාවාදෙනු ලැබීමට කැමතිවූ, පව්කරුවන්ගේ අත්වලට පත්කරනු ලැබ හා කුරිරුවූ කුරුසියේ මැරීමට යෙදෙන්නට සැලසූ,  ඔබගේ මෙම පවුල දෙස කරුණාවෙන් බැලුව මැනව. ජීවමානවූ මහිමයටපත්වූ ඔබහා ශුද්ධාත්මයාණන් සමඟ දැනුත් සදහටත් එකම දෙවිඳුන්ව සිටින ක්‍රිස්තුස් වහන්සේගේ දුක්විදීමේ ඵල බෙදාගැනීමට ඔබගේ අනුග්‍රහය අපට ප්‍රධානය කල මැනව. ආමේන්.

යේසුස් වහන්සේ යලිත් මහ හඬින් මොරගා අවසන් හුස්ම හෙළූ සේක. ශතාධිපතියාද ඔහු සමඟ යේසුස් වහන්සේ මුරකරමින් සිටි අයද, පොළෝ කම්පාවත්, සිදුවූ දේත්දැක ඉතා බියපත්ව “ සැබවින්ම මේ මනුෂ්‍යයා දෙවියන් වහන්සේගේ පුත්‍රයාය“ යි කීහ. මතෙව් 27:50,54.
