Prayers at home - Easter 7 "Ascension Sunday" (24.05.2020)

Friends!

Every during the month of May-June we come together to be involved in mission work to celebrate our ordination to the priesthood which falls on May 6th. This year (Corvid-19) too like last year (Easter Sunday bombing) we could not fulfill our commitment. As our act of thanksgiving to God we have come together to lead you in this Ascension Sunday worship – a service of the word. Stay blessed and stay safe.

The introduction
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the midst of a pandemic, a curfew which has kept us locked up inside our homes like the first disciples at Easter, and no worship services, yet for forty days we have been joyfully celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. His resurrection is a reminder to us especially during this period that he has defeated death and the power of sin. Today we celebrate our Lord’s ascension into heaven, where he sits at the right hand of the Father who’s will and purposes he fulfilled on this earth. He sits in majesty as king of Kings and Lord of Lords. As we celebrate his ascension let us submit to his rule in our lives as we worship him today

The ascension Reading Acts 1:4-11

The opening song
During the singing of this song you may light a candle to symbolize the glory of the ascended Christ as light of the world

The confession
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrew 4:15-16

Silence

Andavarey irangum, irangum
Andavarey irangum

Christhuvey irangum aiya
Christhuvey iranguma aiya

Andavarey irangum, irangum
Andavarey irangum

Absolution
May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen.

The joy of forgiveness
He is Lord//
He has risen from the dead and he is Lord
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confesses
That Jesus Christ is Lord

The collect for the day
We pray together

O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we pray to you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The reading from the New Testament – Ephesians 1:15 – 23

The Gospel – Luke 24:44 - 53

Reflection

The affirmation of faith
Let us affirm our faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Though he was divine, he did not cling to equality with God, but made himself nothing. Taking the form of a slave, he was born in human likeness. He humbled himself and was obedient to death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God has raised him on high, and given him the name above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, and every voice proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.                                                          cf Philippians 2.6-11

Prayers of the people

We thank God for our faith in the risen and ascended Lord, who leads into eternal life. We pray that we may continue to grow in faith and hope that we too will be raised to share in his glory.

We pray for the world and the need for healing from the corona virus. That God will have mercy and compassion on the affected, the quarantined, those who are affected but are afraid to seek help due to stigmatization and racism; that they will find healing and wholeness.

For all those who have lost their lives in war and natural disasters, especially for those who are seeking justice. That God will continue to bring peace and comfort to these homes and bring true peace and reconciliation to our nation.

We pray for our country and its leaders. That they may govern our country as leaders of all people with justice and fairness.

We pray for the Anglican communion, thanking God for it’s presence throughout the world and praying for its continuous mission in being witnesses to the God news. That God may reveal his presence to all through his gospel; the truth that sets us free.

We pray for the church and witness in this time of pandemic. That God will guide the church as we look to the future.

In silence we bring before the Lord our own prayers.

The Lord’s prayer
Looking for the coming of his kingdom, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us

The Greeting of Peace
Jesus says: ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. If you love me, rejoice because I am going to the Father’. Alleluia. John 14:27, 28

The peace of the Lord be with you
And also with you.

Blessing
May God the Father, who has given to his Son the name above every name, strengthen you to proclaim Christ Jesus as Lord. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be with you, this day and evermore. Amen.
